Meet the Awkward Team
Owned and operated by 3 women, Awkward started as a dream, was fueled by inspiration, and has been brought to fruition by passion.
Grace Aversa is the mastermind behind the concept, wanting to blend her loves all in one. Grace is an Los Angeles native, with a deep passion for pop-punk music and helping people. Grace had the idea to start a business where people who struggle with isolation, could come together. Being a full time EMT, she knew she would have to enlist help. Grace introduced the concept to her wife, Marissa Aversa, who got the wheels turning. Marissa began working on a business plan, trying to combine the couples' passions together. The idea of a pop-punk themed coffee shop came and the couple did not look back. They enlisted the help of their friend, Jessica Owens. She is an established business owner, with a love for coffee and art. Jessica brings experience and creative insight to the Awkward team.
Awkward Coffee strives to bring an experience to the coffee industry. Whether it is the sounds of the music playing in our cafe, the mix of art and memorabilia on our walls, or the coffee that brings you in the door, we hope to be a regular stop in your daily "grind".
Meet Our Roaster
Yo! ZOOMA!
We selected the local coffee roaster, YO! ZOOMA, because we love their gourmet beans and delicious roasts, and we admire their company ethos. Their beans are sourced from Fair Trade coffee collectives around the globe and they donate company profits to supporting dog rescues and shelters. Lastly, our beloved furry family members, are members of the team.
Our Coffee Beans
At Awkward Coffee, we carry a few different coffee blends. Our "Awkward Blend" is are medium roasted beans sourced from Brazil, Colombia, and Guatemala. It has notes of milk chocolate, caramel, and cherry with a velvety finish. Our espresso blend is sourced from Colombia, Brazil, and Indonesia, having notes of dark chocolate and molasses, with a sweet and smokey finish. Awkward' decaf blend is single origin from Colombia. It is roasted to medium to help bring out caramel and chocolate flavors with a nutty undertone.
